How Yoga Heals: UnlockingYour
Inner Sanctuary

A Transformational Online Course
with Judith Hanson Lasater, Ph.D.

Master the ancient wisdom that transforms your
practice from something you do into who you are

What if the deepest healing your yoga can offer isn't in the poses themselves—but in learning to truly inhabit them?

After 52 years of teaching yoga, renowned teacher Judith Hanson Lasater has discovered something profound: Sensation is the key to the kingdom.

Not more flexibility. Not stronger muscles. Not even deeper relaxation.

But the quality of your presence within each moment and each movement: The ability to feel what you're feeling without judgment, to stay with difficulty without running away, to find your "golden couch of Vishnu" even when life feels anything but peaceful.

This is yoga as it was always meant to be: a sanctuary you carry within you, accessible in any moment, through any challenge in your life.

The Missing Link in Your Practice

Does any of this sound familiar?

  • You feel like a million dollars after a yoga class - happy, centered and calm. But by the next morning, you're caught up in stress and overwhelm again.
  • You know yoga is supposed to help with stress and anxiety, but you're not sure how to access that healing when you need it most.
  • Life keeps throwing challenges your way—transitions, losses, uncertainty—and you wish you knew how to "live your yoga" off the mat.
  • You practice regularly but still feel like you're missing something deeper, some essential understanding that would transform everything.

Here's what Judith has learned after five decades of practice and teaching:

The poses in and of themselves are not enough. They are just the beginning. The real transformation happens when you learn to shift your relationship with sensation, breath, and presence itself.

In her own words: "Yoga practice does not create peace. It does not create consciousness. It recognizes it. It slows us down so we wake up to what is already there."

Introducing: How Yoga Heals—Unlocking Your Inner Sanctuary

This is your invitation to study with one of yoga's most beloved wisdom teachers—a rare opportunity to learn not just the techniques of yoga, but the art of living yoga in every moment of your life.

Over six profound modules plus two live Q&A sessions, Judith guides you through a journey that will fundamentally shift how you practice, teach, and experience yoga's healing power.

Here's What's Included

Module 1: Exploring the Stages of Being:

The Yoga of Inner Peace

"Sensation is the key to the kingdom."

In this foundational module, Judith introduces you to a revolutionary framework for understanding your inner states. Learn why recognizing where you are on the spectrum of consciousness changes everything about how you practice and live.

  • The continuum of consciousness: Learn to recognize the subtle states between "normally awake" and "depleted"—and why paying attention to where you are on this spectrum changes everything
  • Why difficulty is the key to transformation: How asana offers us a "clear difficulty" that teaches us to stay present with challenge rather than fighting against it.
  • The practice of "body fullness": Move beyond mindfulness into complete embodiment through simple practices you can do anywhere—paying attention to the soles of your feet, noticing how shifting weight creates tension in your jaw.

Plus: A lying pranayama practice that demonstrates Judith's unique approach to breathwork—not about taking in more air, but learning to tolerate the spaciousness between breaths.

Module 2: The Four Attachments—

Freeing Yourself from  Suffering

"The past and future are both thoughts. They do not exist other than in our thoughts."

In this module, Judith takes you deeper into the practice of presence and reveals why mental peace is the gateway to everything else yoga offers.

You'll discover:

  • The practice of letting go: Yoga isn't about acquiring information or achieving states—it's about letting go of everything: our belief systems, memories, experiences, attachments. "Stop fighting with the present moment," Judith teaches. "That is the definition of suffering."

  • The four attachments that steal your peace: Judith identifies the mental patterns that keep you stuck—attachment to being right, being in charge, expecting things to be easy, and believing others "make" you feel certain ways. Recognizing these attachments the moment they arise gives you the power to choose differently.

  • Problems vs. challenges: Problems are always about the future; challenges arise in the present. This distinction transforms how you meet difficulty.

  • The presence practice that changes everything: Judith leads you through a powerful meditation bringing awareness to the center of the brain, releasing the tongue, opening the heart space, and settling into the belly.

  •
  • Practice included: A seated pranayama and meditation practice that blends the teachings into embodied experience.

Module 3: Deepen Into Peace—

Finding Time for Silence in Life and Practice

"I want to relax until it's who I am, not what I do."

In this pivotal module, Judith makes an impassioned case for why 20-minute Savasana is not optional if you want to access yoga's deepest healing.

 Judith shares her insights into:

  • Why we've lost our refuge: Judith traces how North American yoga has shifted from a practice of being to a practice of doing. "The mat is no longer a refuge," she explains. "It's a place of challenge." Now yoga has become entertainment, distraction—we've lost the very thing we most desperately need.

  • The sympathetic vs. parasympathetic truth: The sympathetic nervous system has ONE function—to save your life. That's it. Not for traffic jams or being late. When we chronically activate this emergency response, everything suffers: heart rate, blood pressure, muscle tension, digestion, immunity, sleep.

  • Rest vs. sleep—they're not the same: You can sleep without being rested. Rest is a distinct physiological state requiring stillness, safety, and deliberate cultivation.

  • The porousness practice: When you rest deeply, you become "porous to the present moment"—infinitely more responsive because nothing is in the way.

Practice included: Full instruction on Savasana setup demonstrating how to create conditions for profound rest.

Module 4: Savasana—The Art of Doing Nothing

"Savasana is magic. It is absolutely magic and the magic doesn't work if you don't do it."

This module is Judith's passionate manifesto on why Savasana is the most under-taught and simultaneously most important pose—and why committing to 20 minutes daily could be the most radical thing you do for your health and consciousness.

 You'll learn:

  • The three stages of Savasana in depth: Judith breaks down the process of Savasana into three stages. Savasana proper begins when you shift into parasympathetic dominance and lose the sense of body parts as separate. Ashunya is the state where students say, "I went somewhere but I wasn't asleep."

  • Why most people struggle: They're not adequately supported with props, don't have the four conditions (still, quiet, dark, warm), and don't do it regularly or long enough. The agitation you feel is just noticing the mind's constant spinning—which is always happening.

  • Gateway to a deeper Savasana: the supported reclining pose: For people who fall asleep immediately, Judith teaches the 45-degree angle that balances the Reticular Activating System—keeping you awake enough to rest, but relaxed enough to access Savasana.

  • For teachers—when to stop talking: Music and constant verbal guidance prevent students from going deep. Speak at the beginning, then be silent for at least 15 minutes.

Practice included: Guided Savasana - Experience how Judith's minimalist cueing style creates space for students' own experience.

Module 5: The Spiritual Nature of the Physical—Embodied Awareness in Asana

"Enlightenment, integration, is a physical experience."

This session introduces Judith's revolutionary teaching on body fullness (not just mindfulness) and why awareness—not consciousness—is the gateway to meditation and lasting transformation.

Judith talks about:

  • The paradox of the physical and spiritual: Judith shares her journey from pure asana practice to anatomy to psychodynamics, finally spiraling back to "the absolute spiritual aspect of the physicality of the pose." Spiritual experience is always described with physical language: "I felt chills," "my heart cracked open." The body is where transformation happens.
  • Interoception—the felt sense: Beyond the five senses, there's interoception—a felt sense of well-being, of what's arising deeply from the body. Research shows people who listen to their bodies eat healthier than people who live in their minds.
  • Moving at the speed of the body: Judith guides you through Upavistha Konasana with a completely different approach—move forward only until you feel "the very first flicker of resistance" and stay there. Then ask: "Can you let me go further?" This is listening, not telling.
  • The distinction between consciousness and awareness: Consciousness is dualistic, of the mind. Awareness is of the body—non-dualistic, simply present with what is. "Sensation is the key to the kingdom."

Practice included: The Upavistha Konasana exploration plus guided sensory awareness demonstrating the difference between thinking about your practice and feeling your practice.

Module 6: The Embodiment Pathway—Pranayama, Pratyahara and the Gateway to Meditation

"What want us to learn is what I call body fullness instead of mindfulness."

In this culminating session, Judith brings together pranayama, pratyahara, and dharana into an integrated practice that leads naturally into meditation—all through the gateway of sensation.

Judith shares:

  • The teaching of letting go: Each step of the eight limbs asks us to let go on another level. "And I believe that the only way to let go is to do something to the body," Judith teaches, "to put it in a position that reflects the consciousness of the body."
  • Pratyahara—the bridge: This misunderstood practice isn't about blocking out sensory input. It's about not dancing with it. When the phone rings, you hear it but don't react—you note it and return to resting in the body.
  • The truth about pranayama: Most people think pranayama is about breathing more deeply. Actually, it's about slowing the breath down, learning to tolerate more CO2, creating spaciousness. "Even breathing is an agitation to the mind."
  • Dharana through sensation: Focus on the sensation of breath, not the mechanics. "The truest pranayama is to be able to be completely aware of the breath without changing it." The minute you manipulate the breath, ego enters.
  • The guided pranayama practice: Judith leads an exquisite lying practice focused purely on sensation—feeling the change in pressure between chest and abdomen, the movement of ribs, the brain lifting and dropping with each breath. "The residue is relaxation without sleepiness and energy without agitation. You're alive to the moment and the moment is enough."

Practice included: The complete lying pranayama practice—a practice you'll return to again and again.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Invitation

Here's what I know after working with thousands of yoga students and teachers over the years:

The poses are just the doorway.

The real transformation—the healing that lasts, the peace that sustains you through life's inevitable challenges, the sanctuary you can access in any moment—comes from learning to shift your relationship with sensation, breath, presence, and consciousness itself.

This is what Judith teaches. This is what she embodies. This is what she's offering you.

Not just techniques. Not just information. But a way of being that transforms yoga from something you do into who you are.

As Judith says: "Yoga practice does not create peace. It does not create consciousness. It recognizes it. It slows us down so we wake up to what is already there."

What is already there, waiting for you to recognize it?

Your inner sanctuary. Your innate peace. Your capacity to meet whatever arises with grace and presence.

The question is: Are you ready to unlock it?

YES, I'M READY TO BEGIN

One Last Thing...

Judith often closes her teachings with these words:

"May we live like the lotus at home in the muddy water."

This is the essence of yoga's healing power—not escaping from life's difficulties, but learning to find peace, beauty, and even joy right in the midst of them.

This course teaches you how.

We can't wait to practice with you.

Namaste,

The YogaUOnline Team
