 The Complete Fracture Prevention Blueprint

Turn the Challenge of Thinning Bones into a
Catalyst for Greater Health, Well-being and Energy

Groundbreaking Online Course for Yoga Practitioners,
Yoga Teachers, Fitness Trainers, and Physical Therapists

For millions of women, the quest to combat the thinning bones of osteoporosis can be a haunting specter. A diagnosis of osteoporosis or osteopenia can have debilitating consequences, not just for a woman's long-term health outlook, but for her mental and emotional well-being as well.

A growing body of research points to numerous ways to prevent fractures and avoid age-related frailty. Many of these approaches aren't just alternative ways to preventing osteoporotic fractures, they are essential components of a balanced program to ensure long-term, healthy aging.

Yoga for Osteoporosis is one emerging approach that is showing promise as a way to counteract thinning bones, without undesirable side effects. Preliminary studies indicate that practiced in the right way, yoga can indeed help build bone mass.

Yoga Teachers! Option to Join Us for an Online Course and 75-Hour Certification Program:

The Complete Bone Health Blueprint

A Multimodal Yoga Approach to Osteoporosis & Fracture Prevention

We are pleased to invite you to join us for an in-depth, groundbreaking NEW online course with yoga therapists Lynn Crimando, Eva Norlyk Smith, and Ellen Saltonstall and Dr. Loren Fishman (authors of Yoga for Osteoporosis and pioneers in the field of osteoporosis prevention and natural approaches to successful aging).

The benefits of yoga for preventing fractures are multi-faceted. Rather than focusing on just one aspect of fracture prevention, a yoga practice carefully tailored for osteoporosis covers all the different aspects of fracture prevention to create a balanced routine that addresses not just thinning bones but also the factors that predispose us to loss of mobility and increasing frailty with age.

The message of yoga is that we CAN turn the challenge of thinning bones into a powerful catalyst for creating greater levels of health, well-being and energy as we get older.

The recipe for preventing osteoporosis-related fractures and frailty is, in essence, also the recipe for successful aging: It is the key to enjoying optimal health and well-being all through life.

In this groundbreaking online course, learn about recent cutting-edge developments in the field of osteoporosis prevention and treatment.

Get up to date on exciting new findings on what it takes to prevent fractures and the specifics of how to target a yoga and exercise practice to address the main risk factors for osteoporotic fractures.

The work of Dr. Loren Fishman and Ellen Saltonstall has been featured in The New York Times, CNN.com, and the Huff Post. This is a unique opportunity to study with leading pioneers in the therapeutic use of yoga for successful aging.

What You'll Learn

  • How and why osteoporosis develops and the best ways to prevent it.
  • How to interpret DEXA scan numbers and the limitations of current diagnostic approaches.
  • Why preventing fractures and preventing frailty as we get older involves more than simply focusing on low bone mass, and how yoga helps.
  • The different ways yoga can help curb fracture risk and the best ways to practice yoga to address a range of risk factors for fractures.
  • What yoga offers in addition to conventional exercise approaches.
  • The different types of strength-building and how to integrate them into your yoga practice.
  • How to target strength-building to prevent the most common types of fractures, including vertebral fractures, hip fractures, and more.
  • What yoga teachers need to know when teaching yoga for osteoporosis to aging boomers (Yoga Teaching Track).
  • Key precautions for practicing yoga for osteoporosis and any other type of exercise.
  • The essential movements you must do every single day to keep your posture and spine strong to help prevent vertebral fractures.

TRACK TWO: PREMIUM

The Complete Bone Health Blueprint:

A Multimodal Yoga Approach to Osteoporosis & Fracture Prevention

35+ Hours Online and Live Study! This Track includes all the material in the Yoga for Osteoporosis Foundations Course PLUS:

Resistance training is one of the most effective ways to build bone mass. But while resistance training is a key component of fracture prevention, there are other important risk factors for fractures that need to be addressed for effective fracture prevention.

In the Premium course, learn how to build a balanced approach to yoga practice and teaching that will enable you to address a wide range of risk factors for osteoporotic fractures.

For example, did you know that:

--> Most fractures - osteoporotic or not - are caused by a fall? More than 90% of hip fractures, for example, are associated with falls, and most of these fractures occur in persons more than 70 years of age.

--> Poor posture can increase the risk of fractures. In fact, research shows that hyperkyphotic posture—the forward curvature of the thoracic spine often called "dowager's hump"—represents an independent risk factor for future osteoporotic fractures.

--> Loss of neuromuscular control can increase fall and fracture risk. Proprioceptive function—the body's ability to sense position and movement—declines with aging. This affects joint biomechanics and neuromuscular control, resulting in impaired balance and increased risk of falls and fractures.

--> Chronic loss of breathing capacity can affect bone metabolism, adding another often overlooked risk factor for impaired bone health and faster loss of bone mass density.

As part of Track 2, learn how to integrate a multi-component, progressive loading and strength-training into your yoga practice for a multidimensional approach to lowering fracture risk.

Also learn how to find the important balance, so you can keep making. progress without risking injury.

Maximize the Benefits of Your Yoga Practice! This track includes eight 90-minute live immersion practices with Lynn Crimando and guest teacher Melina Meza - as well as workshops with Lynn Crimando and Eva Norlyk Smith on the latest findings in our knowledge on fracture prevention and how to integrate this into your yoga practice.

  • Which are the latest scientific findings on ways to optimize bone building?
  • How can we incorporate these findings into our daily yoga and/or exercise routine?
  • How can we integrate strength-building safely into a daily yoga practice while also addressing additional risk factors for fractures?
  • How can we prepare the body to build up to the added demands on our physical frame needed to strengthen muscles and stimulate bone growth?
  • How can we structure our yoga practice to enhance coordination, mobility and balance to prevent fractures and retain full mobility as we get older?

JUNE PRACTICE SERIES

The New Science of Bone Building and Fracture Prevention

A Practice Series with Lynn Crimando, C-IAYT

In this groundbreaking practice series, yoga therapist Lynn Crimando brings together the latest research on how bones are built, maintained, and protected, and translates it into a progressive, practical yoga practice you can do for the rest of your life.

Drawing on discoveries  demonstrating that specific loading patterns can measurably stimulate new bone formation — Lynn will show you how to work with your body's own bone-building wisdom rather than against it. The key insight: it's not just about how much you load your bones, but how you load them — the rate, the direction, the variety, and the progressive challenge you bring to your practice.

In this series you will:

  • Understand the science of bone remodeling and why the kind of movement you do matters as much as the amount

  • Integrate strength training, impact training, and multi-directional loading into a yoga framework — safely and effectively at every level of bone health

  • Work with resistance tools (bands, loops, weights) woven seamlessly into yoga progressions for progressive, functional strength

  • Build explosive movement and dynamic resilience — the qualities that help bones bend rather than break

  • Apply evidence-informed principles from the latest bone-building research to your daily practice

JULY PRACTICE SERIES

Yoga with Weights:
Building Strength for Bone Health and Metabolic Resilience

with Melina Meza

Retaining muscle strength is critical for keeping your bones strong and maintaining the functional health and balance that will help prevent falls and fractures.

The solution isn't complicated: you need to build and maintain muscle. But here's where it gets interesting for yoga practitioners.

Traditional strength training works—but it comes with limitations. Isolated movements on machines don't train the integrated movement patterns you use in daily life. Heavy weights can stress aging joints.

What if you could build the muscle you need while also improving mobility, balance, and body awareness?

That's exactly what yoga with weights offers—and it's why this approach is uniquely suited to the needs of aging bodies.

In this four-part class series on Building Strength for Metabolic Resilience, renowned yoga teacher Melina Meza will help you discover the benefits of a yogic approach to strength training for healthy aging.

When you add light resistance to intelligent yoga sequences, you get:

  • Functional strength: Movement patterns that translate directly to daily activities.
  • Joint-friendly loading: Enough resistance to trigger muscle growth without excessive joint stress.
  • Integrated training: Strength, mobility, and balance work happening simultaneously.
  • Nervous system support: Breathing and mindful movement that reduce the stress response often triggered by intense exercise.
  • Accessibility: No gym required, adaptable to any fitness level, welcoming to those intimidated by traditional weight training.

AUGUST PRACTICE SERIES

Yoga for Core Integrity and Fall Prevention

A Practice Series with Lynn Crimando, C-IAYT

Falls are the leading cause of fractures — and a strong, stable core is one of your most powerful tools for preventing them. In this focused practice series, renowned yoga therapist Lynn Crimando guides you through a carefully structured progression of practices designed to build the deep core strength and body awareness that protect you every time you move through the world.

This series goes far beyond conventional "core work." Drawing on the latest research in fall prevention, functional movement, and neuromuscular training, Lynn addresses the full architecture of a stable, resilient body — from the spine and pelvis to the hips, feet, and postural muscles. Each session integrates strength, balance, alignment, and breath, building layer by layer toward greater confidence and functional independence.

In this series you will:

  • Develop deep core integrity that stabilizes the spine, protects against vertebral fractures, and supports every movement you make

  • Train dynamic balance and proprioception — the real-time body awareness that catches a stumble before it becomes a fall

  • Strengthen the back extensors, hips, and postural muscles that hold you upright and reduce fall risk

  • Learn to use the breath strategically to support core engagement and body awareness

  • Build movement confidence through safe, progressive practices suited to adults with osteoporosis, osteopenia, or a history of fractures

Whether you are new to therapeutic yoga or an experienced practitioner, this series meets you where you are. All practices use simple props — a chair, wall, yoga strap, and elastic band — to ensure safety, accessibility, and effectiveness at every level.
