Keys to Relieving Forward Head Posture:
How Yoga Can Help Relieve Chronic Neck Pain and Improve Posture
Do you struggle with rounded shoulders, a slumped posture, and/or a head that juts forward of the midline?
If so, you are one of the millions of people caught in the epidemic of forward head posture, one of the most common misalignments in today’s society.
Why is forward head posture so common? In today’s society, most of us spend hours every day hunched over a computer screen or on our smartphones. As a result, we are seeing a virtual epidemic of postural problems, particularly forward head posture.
Should you care? Well, forward head posture is not just an unflattering cosmetic problem that makes you look years older than you are.
It is often linked to many unwelcome symptoms. These include neck and back pain, headaches, balance issues, and, in the long term, potentially degenerative disc disease in the cervical spine.
In forward head posture, the upper cervical vertebrae are hyperextended while the lower cervical vertebrae slide forward on one another. This puts excess tension on the tissues in the neck area, especially in the facet joints and ligaments.
In addition, when the cervical spine loses its natural curvature, there is more likelihood of nerve compression and disc degeneration, resulting in a host of musculoskeletal and neurological problems.
Research suggests that yoga can be helpful to correct this posture issue and even potentially provide pain relief from most complications associated with forward head posture.
Join us for a new online course on Yoga for Posture Improvement - Keys to Relieving Forward Head Posture and Preventing Hyperkyphosis with yoga therapists Dr. Gill Solberg, DPT, and Rachel Krentzman, PT, C-IAYT.
In this course, you will learn how to find alignment throughout the length of the spine so that the neck comes back into its natural position with the ears in line with the shoulder joint. Learn how to work with misalignment issues on the thoracic spine, the shoulders, and the entire upper body for best results.
Did you know that posture is one of the most overlooked keys to health and well-being? Postural imbalances lead to extra wear and tear on muscles and the skeletal system, which in turn are likely to result in joint dysfunction and chronic pain over time.
Posture disorders may also impair the normal functioning of the internal body systems. A slumped or imbalanced posture can put pressure on the chest cavity, impairing the respiratory system and digestive systems. Chronic tension patterns from posture imbalances can affect the smooth flow of the circulatory and nervous systems as well.
Yoga is one of the most effective ways to improve posture, and the earlier you start, the better! In this innovative course, rennowned yoga therapist Dr. Gill Solberg combines modern science and classical yoga to form a cohesive approach to common postural disorders.
